Plans for a new world-leading, next-generation Material Recycling Facility (MRF), serving Solihull and surrounding areas, have now been concluded and work on the new plant is expected to start this summer.

Sherbourne Recycling Limited (SR Ltd) has been established to deliver recycling facilities to Solihull Council and the other seven participating local authorities, including Rugby Borough Council, Stratford upon Avon District Council and Warwick District Council.

Once operational, the facility will process 175,000 tonnes per annum of mixed recycling from household and commercial sources. It will use the latest technologies to achieve exceptionally high purity rates and will be able to tackle a broader range of waste materials, including single-use plastics.

A Solihull Council spokesperson said:

“This is excellent news and will help the Council meet its recycling ambitions and will allow a wider range of materials to be recycled, reducing the amount of waste requiring disposal.

“The Council has worked closely with its seven partners to bring these plans to reality and looks forward to offering a world-leading recycling service to Solihull residents.”

SR Ltd will oversee the construction of the new space. Work is scheduled to begin in early summer 2021, and the facility is expected to be fully operational by summer 2023.
