Last week the Malaysian Lawn Bowls team visited Victoria Park Bowling Greens in Royal Leamington Spa, as part of their preparations for next year’s Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Whilst in the UK the Malaysian team are playing international indoor bowls matches against Bowls England and Bowls Scotland between 3 and 6 November.

During the visit to the Victoria Park Bowling Greens in Royal Leamington Spa, the Malaysian team presented Warwick District Council (WDC) with a commemorative crystal paperweight, to show their appreciation for the hospitality they received

Syed Zainal Abidin, the Malaysian Team Manager said:

“Our preparations for the Games are well underway and we’re heading to South Africa next to build our team, keep training and prepare to return next year with a strong performance.

“We would like to thank Warwick District Council and Royal Leamington Spa Bowls Club for hosting our visit and making us feel very welcome.”

As the countdown to next year’s Commonwealth Games continues, WDC have launched the Commonwealth Connections Initiative. We want to hear from residents, sportspeople, community workers, school children, and charities about their connections to the Commonwealth.

Whether it is a short story, a personal experience, or a link to a local community, we are aiming to find a local link to all 54 Commonwealth countries.

Leader of WDC, Cllr Andrew Day, added: “It is great to see the Malaysian Lawn Bowls team at the Victoria Park Bowling Greens in Royal Leamington Spa, as we look forward to seeing world-class bowls at the greens next year.”
