Solihull Council announced today in a press release that due to the increase of COVID-19 cases in the area, Solihull’s Director of Public Health, Ruth Tennant has began advising that secondary school head teachers start to reintroduce and enforce face coverings for pupils attending school of Year 7 upwards in their lessons as well as communal areas.

Ruth Tennant explained, “For the last few weeks of this school term, I am working with our school leaders to reduce the disruption that the Delta variant is causing to children’s education.”

“As more adults from 18 upwards get vaccinated and more have two doses, the situation will improve, as we know the vaccine is working well.”

Ruth has stated she is proud of the vaccine progress, she ensures it’s important to encourage face masks from today.

Under Solihull Council, Ruth Tennant has also encouraged that those transferring from Primary schools to Secondary should visit their new school ‘virtually’, unless there is a specific reason as to why the child has to visit the school grounds in person.

The press report ended with Ruth Tennant reminding the people of Solihull that financial support for those self-isolating has been revised.

“Anyone who earns below £26,000 and faces a loss of income is now eligible. People can apply for support here.”
