Today, the 11th of March 2022, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council released a message from Councillor Ian Courts, the Leader of the council. In this statement, he expressed that the news coming to light from Ukraine was both “dreadful” and “getting worse.”
Within the statement he explains the scenes of Ukraine as the following: “The scenes of destruction and the evil that is causing it are quite unimaginable. Many are wanting to help in some way.”
Solihull Council listened to the people’s pleas for easier ways to offer support to Ukraine and provided their own information segment on their website, discussing and showing links to charities to help out the affairs going on in Ukraine during their invasion from Russia. How you can help Ukraine.
The website provided also gives assistance for those curious on how to bring Ukrainian family members, friends to the UK with the help of the Ukrainian Embassy.
Ian Courts has stated that he is still awaiting for further information from the UK Government in arranging refugee spots for those from Ukraine – But Solihull is awaiting to play it’s part when needed to.
Another major concern in the United Kingdom and the United States has been one of gas and electric costs rising in price, however, Ian Courts has reassured the public that Solihull Council with the help of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) are moving towards more environmentally friendly housing which will save on the costs – He mentions that Elmdon will be benefiting from 150 homes in saving insulation as well as Coventry changes as well.
After wishing the people of Solihull a warm and good weekend, Ian finished his statement with the following: “Let’s just hope that this senseless and brutal Russian aggression in Ukraine is brought to an end as soon as possible.”
