Today, Tuesday 8 March, the world celebrates International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022, a day to recognise the achievements of women and bring attention to the women’s equality movement.
This year, the theme is ‘Break the Bias’, and Solihull Council is encouraging residents to strike the IWD pose and share stories of women across the borough who are working hard to encourage positive change in their communities.
This is a fantastic opportunity to support the women of Solihull who dedicate their efforts to shaping a world where women from all backgrounds are afforded equal rights and opportunities.
Residents can share their stories by using the hashtags #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias and tagging @SolihullCouncil. Submit your #BreakTheBias photo on the IWD website.
Cllr Bob Sleigh OBE, Cabinet Member for Resources at Solihull Council, said:
“This year’s theme aims to encourage all to collectively contribute to dismantling biases in our communities, from our schools and workplaces to our social spaces and local organisations.
“No action is too small, every effort counts in the fight to rectify inequality; if there are women you admire with a passion for creating positive change in Solihull, we would love to know! It could be a family member, a friend, a colleague, or a public figure – if they are your local hero, now is the perfect opportunity to shine a spotlight on them and show your appreciation for the work they do.”
