The completion of a new 3G artificial playing surface at their Hampton Road ground has caused much excitement for Racing Club Warwick players, members and fans.

The new all-weather pitch is part of an 18-month long project to upgrade the Warwick District Council-owned venue, replacing the grass pitch, which had been prone to flooding with weather-resistant turf. The scheme has been managed through a partnership between the Council, Racing Club Warwick and the Football Foundation.

Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Culture, Councillor Jan Matecki, commented:

“After such a difficult year, it’s very rewarding to know that the long-held plans for these wonderful new facilities have now become a reality for Racing Club Warwick. The new pitch will provide a fitting home for the club and become a valuable asset for the whole community.”

In addition to £150k from the District Council and a successful grant awarded by the Football Foundation, the project received generous funding from the King Henry VIII Charitable Trust and Warwick Town Council. Racing Club Warwick is planning an official opening of the new pitch later in the year, once national restrictions are lifted.

Club chairman Gary Vella added, “The new 3G pitch will be a real community facility, enabling the club to link in with other junior clubs and partners from within the local area to provide a venue that is accessible for all. We now have a top quality playing surface for our first team, every day of the week. We can’t wait to get the go-ahead to start up again.”
